A visit to the Tamahar Foundation opened my eyes to the incredible work being done for children with special needs and their families. In this article, I would like to share my experience at Tamahar and the profound impact it had on me.

WeCare organized a visit to Tamahar Foundation to spend time and interact with specially abled children. I was happy to volunteer for this event and spend time with the children to gain a better understanding of their world. The opportunity to contribute to their cause and gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by these children and their families motivated me to participate in this visit.

Upon arrival at Tamahar, it was evident that the children were equally thrilled to meet us. The parents were equally excited to interact with us. Witnessing the children's beaming smiles and infectious laughter, despite their challenges, filled my heart with warmth and admiration. Their resilience, love, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impression on me.

For ease of interaction, we were divided into teams of two. We had several activities planned for the day. First, we met the founder of the organization, who shared with us her journey and motivation to help children with special needs. We also met with the staff and were told of certain rules, do's and don'ts concerning the children’s safety. Shortly after, each team moved to their allocated rooms to play and spend time with the children.

I interacted with the parents and they were open in sharing their life lessons and morals. We also organized fun activities for the parents like Tambola, Antakshari followed by a joyous dance session. I also went to the park with the children where we played cricket, swing, slides, and other fun games. The laughter, screams of joy and happiness in the kids was unmatchable. When the exhaustion finally caught up with us, we all gathered for refreshments, bringing the wonderful event to a close.

Encounters like these have the power to transform perspectives, instill empathy and deepen our understanding of the challenges faced by individuals with special needs and their families. By sharing our experiences and stories of these remarkable individuals, we can inspire others to take action, whether through volunteering, offering support, or advocating for inclusive practices. Together, we can create a society that embraces and supports the unique abilities of every individual.

Seeing the unwavering dedication of the staff and volunteers, who worked tirelessly to provide holistic care and support was also awe-inspiring. Every aspect of the foundation's work, from therapy sessions to educational initiatives, was carried out with utmost compassion and professionalism. This experience opened my eyes to the immense potential within each child and reinforced the significance of creating inclusive environments where they can flourish.

And I finally want to thank Torry Harris for giving us this opportunity to be a part of this wonderful gathering and to our WeCare team who helped put this together.
