Excitement and curiosity! These are two words that could describe my emotions when I saw an invite for the plantation drive. I just knew I had to be part of it. In no time, did I not only sign up as a volunteer but also asked my colleagues to join. Shortly after the registration process, all the volunteers got a call to discuss the activities for the plantation day. The partnering NGO – Biotasoil was to give us a briefing about the urban forestation.

And so, the day arrived! On 10th June, 2023, a team of volunteers headed out to Nayandahalli, Anekal where we planted 275 saplings which would go on to become the foundation of an urban forest in the area. It was nothing less that endearing to witness the conversation between the volunteers and the Biotasoil team. It was interesting to know that the afforestation process was a replication of the Miyawaki method. This is a technique of planting native trees densely on degraded land to create a natural forest quickly. Based on replicating natural reforestation processes and improving soil quality, this method facilitates faster afforestation.

I also gained a lot of knowledge about the native species and the soil. I was reminded of my biology lessons from school.

The plantation drive was the coming together of enthusiastic IT professionals, local community members and pro-planet NGO runners. The collaboration and expertise of Biotasoil team enhanced the impact of our plantation drive, making it even more meaningful and effective.

Here are 4 important takeaways related to our plantation drive:

Reforestation: By planting a diverse range of trees, we aim to restore the natural balance of our environment and create green spaces for future generations.

Biodiversity Conservation: Our efforts will contribute to the preservation of native flora and fauna, enhancing the overall biodiversity of the area.

Climate Action: Trees play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Our plantation drive will help combat the effects of global warming and create a healthier atmosphere.

Community Engagement: We intend to involve the local community by spreading awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability and encouraging active participation in similar initiatives.

Together, we have not only planted trees but also sown the seeds of environmental awareness and sustainable practices. This plantation drive is a testament to our collective commitment in creating a greener, healthier, and a more sustainable future for generations to come. Let's carry the spirit of WeCare forward and continue to champion environmental sustainability in all aspects of our lives. Together, we can create a world where nature thrives, and future generations can flourish.
